Society interior designer Jan des Bouvrie told a news conference on Thursday afternoon his arrest on tax fraud charges centres on the value added tax levied over an €80,000 bill which was addressed to the wrong company due to a typing error.
The recipients of the bill wrongly deducted the value added tax as a business expense, but the bill related to work on a private house, Des Bouvrie said.
The designer and tv presenter, who is 67, said he had been arrested at his home in Naarden at 7am on Tuesday morning by heavily-armed agents from the tax evasion investigation department FIOD. He was released on Wednesday evening.
‘I have been questioned about this bill for two days and three hours,’ he told reporters.

Corus Nederland’s works council has reacted angrily to the enforced departure of supervisory board member Marjan Oudeman, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Thursday.
Oudeman has been forced to stand down on the orders of Corus owner Tata Steel, the paper says. Oudeman is a former director of Corus Nederland and considered one of the most powerful women in the Netherlands.
The works council said in a statement she had performed exceptionally as a member of the supervisory board and made an important contribution to the continuity of Corus Nederland.
There is no reason to replace her before her official term in office has been completed, the works council said.

According to BNR radio, Oudeman is leaving the supervisory board to concentrate on her executive role with parent company Corus Group.

Mosquito noise machine ’should be banned’

The mosquito, a machine which emits an annoying sound only young people can hear and is used in Holland to discourage youngsters from hanging around on the streets, should be banned, according to the Council of Europe.
The council said use of the machine contravenes human rights and effectively treats youngsters as vermin, news agency AP reported.
In November 2008, home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst warned local councils that use of the mosquito may be unconstitutional.
The Council of Europe has no powers to actually ban use of the machine but is asking local governments to do so.

The state-run job centre organisation UWV is almost out of money to spend on projects to get the unemployed back into work, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.
The UWV had a budget of €126m this year, unchanged from 2009. ‘Last year there was enough money because the economic crisis had just broken out,’ a spokesman told the paper. ‘But the projects started last year are pressuring this year’s budget.’
Over 320,000 people are now claiming unemployment benefit in the Netherlands.
The UWV is cutting back on its contracts with external reintegration bureaus in order to balance its books, the paper says.
MPs have called for an explanation from social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner.

Airline group Air France-KLM is to make a formal complaint to the European Union about illegal state support for budget airline Ryanair, according to Le Figaro.
The paper says the Irish airline enjoyed €660m in government subsidies in 2008, including €35m in France itself. The support came in the form of reducing landing fees and airport taxes.
Ryanair dismissed the claims. ‘It’s Air France that is getting illegal aid in terms of reduced airport taxes on its domestic routes in France,’ website airlinepost.com quoted a Ryanair spokesman as saying.
The European Commission has made several investigations into state support for Ryanair in the past.
